The house is a modern-rendition of a central-Thai “cluster house”. It features one wood structures, decking and a “sala” or pavilion. Major components of the house were manufactured in Phuket by best quality teak wood from Thailand and shipped to Phuket via truck. A modern kitchen and bath/laundry are housed in a separate structure at ground level, in addition to two guest bungalows, a workshop/garage and pump house/storage house.
Facilities
The wood Thai houses measure 5.5 meters x 7.0 meters each and are constructed completely of hardwoods in a post-and-beam construction with panelized curtain walls. All flooring is “daeng” wood and the wall panels, including shutters, doors and mosquito frames are solid teak wood. Support columns (8” diameter) and structural beams are “taeng” wood. The roof is covered with fired clay tiles and interior vaulted ceilings are sheathed in “daeng” wood. All hinges are solid brass. All electric wiring is enclosed in wood “wire-ways” and outlets are fitted to surface-mounted teak boxes. Ceiling fans and fixtures are antique style and conducive to the overall architectural style. While one house is used primarily for casual living area and includes a half-bath, the other house serves as a living/sleeping area with a porch area that can be converted to “open-air” by way of three sets of French doors.
